SUMMARY OF MARINE ENGINE SURVEY REPORT by marine surveyors dubai

FOR HULL AND MACHINERY INSURANCE

 Hull and machinery Inspectors dubai

Hull and machinery Inspectors marine surveyors dubai.

Our marine surveyors dubai Independent ship surveyors undertook a detailed scrutiny/investigation of the major defects indicated by despondent owners since their takeover of the vessel.

The major defects found  by marine surveyors dubai  reportedly existing in the vessel were :

  1. Failure of both thermal boiler circulating pumps.
  2. Leakage of the heat exchangers.
  3. Leakage from both port & starboard stern tube aft seals.
  4. Continuous problems with the cargo electro hydraulic crane.
  5. Failure of both shaft generator couplings in quick succession.
  6. Failure of auxiliary engine no. 1 of coupling.
  7. Excessive leakage from fuel pipes on the port engine.
  8. Problems with the purifiers.
  9. Breakdown of the auto pilot.

The marine surveyors report starts with the background and historic data of the vessel as extracted from various plans and documents on board and/or supplied by the vessels marine Master/ Chief Engineer. Detailed information of the problems faced during various seas trails was noted.

Given below marine surveyors dubai are the attending Constellation Surveyor’s remarks on chronological finding with reference to on board records and evidences from Master and crew interviews that had been on board since takeover of the vessel.

1.marine surveyors dubai representing Failure of both thermal circulating pumps :

Referring to records of Engine Log book, it was found that the thermal circulation pumps were stopped due to leaks. Based on other findings the independent marine surveyors opine on without prejudice basis that one of the reasons the thermal circulation pumps may have failed in quick succession would be due to the effect of microbial degradation latent in the oil remaining in the system owing to the unforeseen long stay of the vessel for repairs during 2009 and early 2010 and because of not draining out the lube oil in the system.

Given below are the attending Constellation Surveyor’s remarks on chronological finding with reference to on board records and evidences from Master and crew interviews that had been on board since takeover of the vessel.

  1.  marine surveyors representing Failure of both thermal circulating pumps:

Referring to records of Engine Log book, it was found that the thermal circulation pumps were stopped due to leaks. Based on other findings the independent marine surveyors opine on without prejudice basis that one of the reasons the thermal circulation pumps may have failed in quick succession would be due to the effect of microbial degradation latent in the oil remaining in the system owing to the unforeseen long stay of the vessel for repairs during 2009 and early 2010 and because of not draining out the lube oil in the system.

2.marine survyeors dubai representing Leakage of the heat exchangers:

Primary cause of the leakages of these brass pipes may have been due to aging of the pipes (material failure) or if previously plugged due to an earlier damage.

3.marine survyeors duba Leakage from both port & starboard stern tube aft seals:

The multiple reasons recorded for the reported leak was spurious spares (Stern Tube oil seal), Deforming Chrome liner in way of seal, Incorrect bonding (because not done by original equipment manufacturers).

4.marine survyeors dubai representing Continuous problems with the cargo electro hydraulic crane:

With strict reference to the factual data made available, there is a series of crane repairs and problems which are recorded before and after the takeover, which indicates a certain latency of defects in the operational condition of the cranes.

5.marine survyeors dubai representing Failure of both shaft generator couplings in quick succession:

During on board inspection and scrutiny of the Vulcan coupling, the surveyors inspected the aged rubber of the coupling and the pieces of the coupling that the chief engineer made available. From the above inspection it was suggested that the incorrect service & repairs and procurement of spurious Vulcan coupling in 2009 may have caused the failure as is reported by the engine manufacturers.

6.marine survyeors dubai representing Failure of auxiliary engine no.1 coupling:

The cause of this failure could be due to metal to metal contact made with the claws, and this in the opinion of the Independent surveyors should have incorporated in the planned maintenance system which directs periodic inspection of these couplings.

The Constellation Marine Surveyors dubai concluded the report by saying that it was evident that the vessel was with the fore mentioned latent defects prior to taking over of the vessel by the new owners and that the vessel was awaiting completion of repairs.

Following the Conclusions is the lists of appendix, as of this report, 22 appendixes were attached to complete the report which contains around 200 pages including attachments.
